Global tech giant Meta Platforms is facing renewed pressure to strengthen its monitoring of artificial intelligence-generated videos after experts warned that misleading AI content is spreading rapidly across social media.

The call for stronger oversight came from the company’s independent Oversight Board, which recently criticized Meta for failing to properly label a viral AI-generated video that circulated widely online. The clip falsely showed heavy damage to buildings in the Israeli city of Haifa during a military conflict, even though the footage had been digitally created using artificial intelligence.
According to reports, the misleading video gained more than 700,000 views before it was reviewed by the board. The account that posted the video appeared to represent a news organization but was later linked to an individual operating from the Philippines. Despite being reported by users, the content initially remained online without any warning label indicating that it was artificially generated.
