Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh — Security agencies in Uttar Pradesh have uncovered a suspected espionage network in Ghaziabad, leading to the detention of nine minors and the arrest of several adults accused of sharing sensitive information with foreign contacts. Authorities say the group was allegedly guided by a foreign handler who instructed them to monitor and film strategic locations.

According to police officials, the operation came to light after suspicious activities were noticed in the Kaushambi area. Investigators discovered that members of the group had been recording videos and capturing images of railway stations, security installations, and other sensitive sites before transmitting the data to overseas contacts.

How the Spy Network Allegedly Operated

Police revealed that the suspects used mobile phones and specialized applications to send photographs, videos, and GPS coordinates of important locations. Authorities believe the network planned to install surveillance equipment at multiple locations to continuously monitor movements.

Interrogation of the accused indicated that they were guided remotely by a foreign handler who provided instructions on installing solar-powered, SIM-based CCTV cameras. Investigators recovered at least two such devices during the operation.

Officials also suspect the group intended to expand surveillance to dozens of additional sites, raising serious concerns about national security.

Arrests and Detentions

The case began on March 14, 2026, when police arrested six individuals during a raid. Further investigation led to the identification of additional suspects, including minors aged between 15 and 17 years.

Authorities confirmed that:

  • Several adults were arrested for alleged involvement in the network
  • Nine minors were detained and placed under the care of the juvenile justice system
  • Two suspected key operatives are currently absconding

Police have registered the case under relevant provisions of the Official Secrets Act and criminal conspiracy laws.

Financial Motive and Recruitment Concerns

Investigators believe the suspects were paid small amounts of money in exchange for sharing information. In some cases, individuals allegedly received payments ranging from a few hundred to several thousand rupees for providing data or assisting with surveillance tasks.

Authorities are particularly concerned about the involvement of minors, suggesting that young people may have been targeted due to their familiarity with smartphones and digital tools.

Security Agencies on High Alert

Following the arrests, security agencies across multiple states have been alerted. Officials are continuing to examine digital evidence, financial transactions, and communication records to determine the full scope of the network.

Police stated that the investigation is ongoing and further arrests are possible as authorities work to identify additional links and associates connected to the alleged espionage operation.
